Screening is for people without symptoms. If any of these sound familiar, especially if they last three weeks or more, contact your GP rather than taking a screening test.

You're aged 45 or over and want proactive screening.
You're not yet eligible for NHS bowel screening, or are between NHS kits.
You want more than FIT alone, with DNA analysis added.
You'd prefer to avoid bowel prep or a clinic visit for screening.
You have a family history and want to talk to your GP about screening options alongside it.

See your GP instead if…

You have symptoms. A screening test isn't the right route. Contact your GP if you notice:

Blood in your poo or bleeding from your bottom
A change in your bowel habits that lasts
Unexplained weight loss
Pain or a lump in your tummy
Feeling very tired for no obvious reason

ColoAlert® and NHS bowel screening

The NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme posts free FIT kits to eligible adults (in England, generally those aged 50 to 74, every two years). Private testing such as ColoAlert® is an additional option and should not replace NHS screening. Keep completing your NHS kit when invited.
